Best write up ive seen of our video comes from a Facebook user.
“It’s interesting to me comparing the status of south Asians in America compared to England. In the UK, it seems to me that we’ve carved out a pretty cozy niche in the culture there. I mean, here in the states our Asian-ness needs to be qualified with a cardinal direction, while in the UK we’re just “Asians.” And in the states, Indian food is pretty much considered “exotic,” while it’s rare that you find an English pub that doesn’t have at least one curry on the menu, a korma or a vindaloo. And we’ve had practically no hand in shaping the aesthetic of Americana since the unfortunate misnomer of the indigenous population of the New World half a millennium ago (and that wasn’t even our fault!), while Cornershop pretty much laid the foundation for our reverse colonization of the dandy affectation of Britpop and whatever the English equivalent of Americana is called over there. Which is why I think there’s something so fucking awesome or transgressive about Sunny Ali and the Kid playing hypnotic alt-country/indie rock in a bar dressed like a cowboy.”

“Iranian photographer Shadi Ghadirian’s studio portraits inspired by early images from the Qajar dynasty (1794–1925); she juxtaposes the past with the present: a modern woman in traditional hijab hoisting a boombox over her shoulder.”
